Our Story
Woowave® was born out of a love for paddling sports and the desire to make every moment on the water more enjoyable. Our founders were avid paddlers themselves who were frustrated with the lack of quality, comfortable, and durable accessories available for their favorite water sports.
In 2017, Woowave® was created to provide paddlers with the gear they needed to have the best possible experience on the water. We started small, designing and hand-crafting kayak seats and SUP seats in our workshop. Our goal was simple – create seating that maximizes comfort, enhances performance, and withstands plenty of use.
Our meticulously designed ergonomic seats were an instant hit with paddlers who fell in love with the extra comfort and support. Raves from our customers fueled us to expand our catalog to serve paddlers’ needs beyond seating.

Our Process
Every Woowave® product goes through an extensive development and testing process before it ends up in our customers’ hands.
- Ideation – Our product design team is made up of passionate paddlers with first-hand experience understanding gear needs and pain points. They combine their on-water expertise with creative solutions to conceptualize new products.
- Prototype & Refine – We create multiple design prototypes that are tested by staff and select customers. Their feedback helps refine the product until it meets our stringent standards.
- Field Testing – Next, products are put through extensive real-world testing under diverse conditions. From calm lakes to raging rapids, we push our gear to the limits during the field testing phase.
- Production – After finalizing the design, we partner with proven manufacturers to produce our products to scale under close supervision. During production we ensure all products meet quality benchmarks.
- Launch – Before launch, all products again go through multi-point inspections and quality checks. When a product is ready for market, we source feedback from customers early-on and use it to quickly implement any necessary tweaks or improvements.

Our Team
Woowave® is made up of passionate paddling enthusiasts who also happen to be product designers, manufacturers, marketers, and customer service fanatics.
Founders
John Wilson and Mark Zhou co-founded Woowave® in 2017. As avid paddlers and product designers themselves, they were frustrated by the lack of well-designed, high-quality accessories available for their favorite water sports. They made it their mission to create gear that would allow more people to get out on the water and have an amazing experience.
Mark brings years of experience developing consumer products and managing production with factories overseas. John has a keen eye for design and materials along with expertise in paddling. Together, they form the perfect team to ideate, produce, and bring innovative paddling products to market.
Outside of work you can find them paddling local waterways with their families and dogs. Their goal is to spend as much time as possible outdoors doing what they love.
Production Team
Our talented production team takes concepts and prototypes to reality. They oversee manufacturing, sourcing quality materials, and QA to ensure every product meets our exacting standards. We partner with proven factories overseas to produce our accessories at scale. Our production experts facilitate seamless processes so we can deliver innovative designs crafted to last.
Design Team
Obsessive attention to detail goes into every Woowave® design. Our design experts are paddlers themselves who understand the nuances of functional product design for enjoyment and high performance on the water. They research paddling gear trends, solicit input from our customers, and tap into decades of combined expertise in consumer products. The result is accessories that look as great as they perform.
Marketing Team
Our small but mighty marketing crew gets the word out about our latest gear innovations. They employ both traditional marketing and digital content creation across our website, social media, emails, and more. Their fun and authentic brand voice keeps our community engaged across channels. They also manage our ambassador program, event sponsorships and other initiatives to support the paddling community.

Aisha Price
Aisha is a whitewater kayaking phenom based in Colorado. She competes around the world as a member of the U.S. National Whitewater Rafting Team. As a Woowave® ambassador, she works to make the sport more welcoming and accessible.
Tom McClean
Tom is an SUP aficionado and instructor in Miami, FL. Originally from Australia, his passion is teaching stand-up paddle boarding to help others experience the beauty of local waterways. With Woowave®’s support, Tom shares his expertise through lessons, clinics, and outreach in the community.
